Cake as art:  Exploring Washington—my new back yard

The last cardboard box is gone, the pictures are up on the walls, I've found that missing rug and located a supermarket. It's official: My husband Anders and I have moved to Washington, D.C.!

After several months of limbo -- flying back and forth from Miami, putting our house on the market, finding a rental  near a Metro stop in DC, (and on and on, you can fill in the blanks!) -- we've finally settled down enough to start exploring all of the things about our nation's Capitol that everyone told us we would love.

This past Sunday, we headed straight for The National Gallery of Art, where there was a free Vivaldi concert to go along with an exhibit featuring landscapes of Venice. All of that was wonderful, to be sure, but I knew I'd found a slice of paradise when we stumbled upon this painting in the East Wing by Wayne Thiebaud, (1963, oil on canvas), named appropriately: "Cakes". My kind of art, my kind of town!

Vivaldi? Landscapes of Venice, oil paintings of cakes? I am sooooo jealous...how's that guest bedroom shaping up?

I am jealous too Beverly...it must be wonderful to have so much opportunity for new adventures within walking distance of the Metro! I can't wait to read all about your new life in DC...it's as close as I'll probably get to urban living!!!
