Desperately seeking the perfect travel mug: Is this too much to ask?

I need a new travel mug and I can’t find one. I’m hoping that you all can help.

When I think I have spotted the perfect travel mug, I see that the bottom screws off, the inside is not stainless steel or it can’t be washed in the dishwasher.

I want a mug that has some type of closed top, but one that doesn’t take a college degree to open. I want the body in one piece, stainless steel and dishwasher-safe.

I want to spend under $20 dollars because more than that just seems wrong, somehow. Is this too much to ask?

So do you have any recommendations? Please share. My coffee and hot tea are important to me and they must travel … help!

I highly recommend the Cuisinart travel mug. Here's a link at Kohl's at a great price: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/kitchendining/drinkware/mugs/travel/PRD~540532/Cuisinart+Thermal+Travel+Mug.jsp

Contigo Autoseal travel mugs. Best EVER! My cousin brought them to a gift swap three years ago and I've been hooked ever since. You can get them at Target, some Costco stores and direct at gocontigo.com. They can't leak, are stainless steel and the whole thing is dishwasher safe! You can even buy replacement lids (great if you're a clutz like me!) Hope these mugs save you as much as your recipes and pantry guidelines have saved me over the years! Everyone thinks I'm a good COOK---I'm just a good READER!

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. The Cuisinart mug looked appealing and the sale price at Kohl's was great - only 9.99, but alas it is not dishwasher safe. The Contigo mug looks more like my thing. I have a Costco just down the street and am going to look for them there next time I go. It looked like there are several kinds...does your have a model name other than AutoSeal? Alicia

Mt favorite is the Tervis Tumblers. Dishwasher safe and microwave safe. Pop on/off lid with slide spout. I'm carring it everwhere I go. Does hot & cold beverages and usally depending on the store, you can find them well under $20.

Costco has awesome cups, they keep your coffee hot for over 2 hours! They come in a pack of 2, for about 15.99? Not sure on the amount, but around that. They are the best mugs I have ever used, and I have used many! Hope you have a costco near you.

hey, my favorite is the OXO coffee mug. I promise you that it will NEVER leak. I promise you. I am a nurse and usually carry a cup of coffee with me to work in the mornings. Since I tried this cup, I haven't had any accidents. Try it! You can find them at Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things.
