Finding a Hair Salon in Paris

True confessions: I'm 47 years old and have had less than 5 people cut my hair. OK, now that you've stopped laughing, let me explain. My mom cut my hair until I was ten. I had long straight hair that didn't need anything but a trim. Then the Farrah Fawcett look was in and I needed layers, so mom was out and my best friend's older sister took over. She was training for her stylist's license and would practice on me. Cindy cut and styled my hair for almost 17 years. When I moved from Charlotte to Raleigh, I would drive back to Charlotte for a haircut for almost a year. But gave that up and found my current stylist, Kim, who has been styling my hair since, which is the last 20 years.

Besides obviously needing therapy for my attachment to my stylist, I find myself here in Paris with a yearning for something new and different. So I'm searching for a Parisian salon to give me the "perfect 'do." But I'm nervous! It's not like I have a bunch of hair, and I realize how different can it really be?

I've asked a few people who does their hair, asked a few expat bloggers and done a massive amount of searching on my own, reading reviews and looking at salons.

Now I'm down to stopping by salons, peaking in the window, watching who goes in and who comes out. I want to say price doesn't matter, but I'm obviously too cheap to spend gobs on my hair.

So I've narrowed it down to two salons. One is very chichi, high end, an experience for sure. According to their price card, a shampoo, cut, color and style will be over 200 euros. The other salon is a bit more toward middle of the road. Nice, beautiful interior and seemingly friendly staff, at least they look that way from the outside. Their shampoo, cut, color and style will be around 120 euro. What to do?

I'm cheap, so I say go for the cheaper option. If it sucks, it'll grow out soon!

Maybe you can go in each salon and observe if they don't mind. smile
