Here’s some background and success measures by an outside evaluator on the Miami-Dade Education Fund’s “Plant a Thousand Gardens Collaborative Nutrition Initiative.” Click here for the garden project’s wesite. Click here for Beverly's blog post about the school gardens she visited.
88 % of parents said they were preparing healthier foods as a result of the school garden program
90% of parents said their children were requesting healthier foods after a year in the CNI garden program
In addition, after a year in the program there was:
A 31% decrease in children frequenting fast food chains.
An 80 percent increase in children who reported eating vegetables with a meal.
The second year’s results also showed CNI significantly improved students’ knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to healthy eating.
