Old songs stuck in my head!
Ever since the flight attendant started singing “Do you know the way to San Jose…” upon take off on a recent trip to San Jose, CA, I can’t get the lyrics out of my head.
For the rest of the flight, I kept hearing others humming, singing or talking about the song. Funny, no one could seem to remember the rest of the lyrics beyond the all too familiar chorus. Just for the record and so you won’t go crazy trying to remember them, here they are:
Do You Know the Way to San Jose?
(performed by Dionne Warwick
Songwriters: Burt Bacharach and Hal David)
Do you know the way to San Jose?
I've been away so long. I may go wrong and lose my way.
Do you know the way to San Jose?
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose.
L.A. is a great big freeway.
Put a hundred down and buy a car.
In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star
Weeks turn into years. How quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas
Do you know the way to San Jose?
They've got a lot of space. There'll be a place where I can stay
I was born and raised in San Jose
I'm going back to find some peace of mind in San Jose.
Fame and fortune is a magnet.
It can pull you far away from home
With a dream in your heart you're never alone.
Dreams turn into dust and blow away
And there you are without a friend
You pack your car and ride away
I've got lots of friends in San Jose
Do you know the way to San Jose?
Can't wait to get back to San Jose.
I’m surprised we all didn’t crash the lyrics site when we landed because I guarantee over half that plane full of people were on the “hand held internet devices” looking up the lyrics. I know I was!

One day I sang part of “Que Sera, Sera” to my CA cousin. She said it was her mother’s favorite song because my paternal grandmother (Stella Rose Cabiness Heizman) used to sing it. Good to know! I then had to Google it & get all of the words. I can still hear Doris Day singing it.
Check out this link that talks about research a University of Cincinnati professor has done as to why certain songs get stuck in your head and some don’t!

As for me, usually when a song gets stuck it starts to drive me crazy. The only solution is to go take a nap!
