Featured Recipe: Coo Coo for Coconut Cupcakes
We've noticed that Parisians stop by one of the hundred or so Patisseries (Pastry or Bakery shop) and buy a little sweet something between 4:30 and 5:30 everyday. Since it's summertime, add the sorbet and ice cream shops to the mix as an alternative, and you probably have 1000 choices within 2 miles of where you are on any day! It's a trend I could get used to, although my waistline would suffer.
No one seems to mind that the little confections can cost a couple euros a piece. Of, course it's really no different than the cupcake shops that dot the US, charging $3 or $4 a piece for a cupcake.
Last week's Desperation Dinners column featured a cheap and easy alternative to buying a sweet treat out: Coo-Coo for Coconut Cupcakes. For about the same price you'd pay for a single cupcake, you can make 24 beautiful cupcakes at home. The greatest thing about these beauties is that they are best when refrigerated and get better and better for about 3 days, so you can share them, or keep them all to yourself and celebrate Parisian style for several days in a row!
