Cooking Notes

If butter and cream cheese are not at room temperature, microwave it, uncovered, at 50 percent power, 45 seconds to 1 minute until softened slightly.

Reduced-fat cream cheese can be used, but it will have a slightly softer texture.

Cream Cheese Frosting

4 tablespoons (½ stick) butter, at room temperature*
1½ cups powdered sugar
2 small packages (3 ounces each) cream cheese, at room temperature*
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place powdered sugar in food processor work bowl and process 1 minute to sift.

Cut cream cheese into 4 pieces and place in work bowl. Add butter and vanilla. Process until smooth, about 30 seconds, stopping as necessary to scrape down sides of bowl.

Use at once or refrigerate, covered, up to 3 days. Bring to room temperature before using.
