Stuffed Cheese Bread
Serves 8
Start to Finish: 45 minutes
Refrigerated dough is the secret to making this rich and yummy appetizer bread fast, too!
Recipe
1 (1 pound) refrigerated pizza dough*
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus 1 teaspoon
6 ounces cheese of choice, such as provolone, Monterey Jack or Sharp Cheddar
1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
Marinara sauce or salsa, optional for serving
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Follow package direction for getting dough ready to bake*. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out into an oval shape that’s 1/4 inch thick. Spread 1 tablespoon olive oil over entire surface of dough. Top with cheese.
Using your hands, roll dough, jelly-roll fashion, into a tube shape. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam side down. Spread remaining teaspoon olive oil over the top of dough. Sprinkle with salt, and bake for until golden brown, about 30 to 35 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to rest 5 minutes. Slice or break into pieces, and serve with warmed marinara or salsa, if desired.
* Notes
Check your supermarket for refrigerated pizza dough. We have found it at Trader Joe’s and Publix. You can also use a 1-pound package of frozen yeast bread dough. Thaw according to package directions and proceed with recipe.
Each brand of dough has slightly different directions for preparing it to bake and bringing it to the correct room temperature.
